This list ranks the 10 most dangerous creatures in Subnautica 2 by a combination of raw damage, attack range, aggression, and how hard they are to avoid. Leviathan-class fauna dominate the top, but several smaller predators earn their place through ambush tactics and venom. Read on to learn what each creature does and how to survive an encounter.
How We Ranked the Threats
This list ranks the 10 most dangerous creatures in Subnautica 2 by a combination of raw damage, attack range, aggression, and how hard they are to avoid. Leviathan-class fauna dominate the top, but several smaller predators earn their place through ambush tactics and venom. Read on to learn what each creature does and how to survive an encounter.
Ranks 10 to 7
10. Sand Shark
Burrows under the sand and ambushes prey. Moderate damage but easy to spot by the dust clouds it kicks up. Keep moving and stay off the seabed in dune biomes.
9. Boneshark
Aggressive pack hunter found in the underwater islands and koosh zones. Individually weak but dangerous in groups. A perimeter defense or knife is enough to deter one.
8. Stalker
Fast and territorial. Stalkers grab scrap metal and sometimes the player, dealing moderate damage. Drop metal salvage to distract them.
7. Crabsnake
Hides inside jellyfish mushrooms and electrifies anything that comes near. The shock drains oxygen and health rapidly. Scan from a distance and avoid the mushroom interiors.
Ranks 6 to 4
6. Crabsquid
Large, aggressive, and capable of disabling electronics with an EMP blast that turns off lights and vehicle systems. Found in deep biomes. Turn off your lights near them and use the stasis rifle.
5. Warper
An intelligent alien construct that teleports and warps the player out of vehicles. It cannot be killed permanently and actively hunts infected targets. Keep your distance and heal your infection to reduce its interest.
4. Sea Dragon Leviathan
A colossal fire-breathing Leviathan in the lava zones. It throws projectiles and can grab the Prawn Suit. There is no safe way to fight it; use stealth and terrain to pass through its territory.
Ranks 3 to 1
3. Ghost Leviathan
Patrols the lost river, grand reef, and the void. Fast, aggressive, and deals massive damage on contact. Juveniles guard key resources. Use the Prawn Suit grappling hook to escape quickly.
2. Reaper Leviathan
The iconic apex predator of the dunes and crash zone. It roars before attacking, grabs vehicles, and can destroy a Seamoth in seconds. Travel at depth or along the seafloor to avoid patrol routes.
1. Sea Emperor / Leviathan Apex Threats
The most dangerous encounters combine raw damage with unavoidable mechanics. Endgame Leviathans in the deepest zones can one-shot unprepared players and chew through reinforced vehicles. Always carry a stasis rifle, repair tool, and health kits.
General Survival Tips Against Predators
- Always carry a repair tool to patch vehicle damage mid-fight.
- Use the stasis rifle to freeze threats long enough to escape.
- Travel at the maximum safe depth to avoid shallow patrol routes.
- Install perimeter defense on the Seamoth and hull reinforcement on the Prawn Suit.
- Keep a spare health kit and cured food in your inventory for emergencies.
Avoidance Is Better Than Combat
Subnautica 2 is a survival game, not a shooter. Most creatures cannot be permanently killed, and engaging them risks your gear and your life. The best strategy is to learn patrol patterns, mark dangerous zones on your map, and route around them. When you must pass through hostile territory, move fast, stay low, and never stop to scan a Leviathan without a stasis rifle ready.
