The Seamoth is the first piloted vehicle most players build in Subnautica 2, and it transforms how you explore. It provides speed, oxygen refills, a perimeter defense system, and a depth rating that opens up the mid-game biomes. To build it, you need to scan blueprint fragments from wrecks and then craft the Mobile Vehicle Bay. This guide covers every step.
Why the Seamoth Is Your First Priority
The Seamoth is the first piloted vehicle most players build in Subnautica 2, and it transforms how you explore. It provides speed, oxygen refills, a perimeter defense system, and a depth rating that opens up the mid-game biomes. To build it, you need to scan blueprint fragments from wrecks and then craft the Mobile Vehicle Bay. This guide covers every step.
Step 1: Build the Mobile Vehicle Bay
Before you can build any vehicle, you need the Mobile Vehicle Bay. This is the deployable platform that fabricates vehicles from the water surface. To unlock it, scan three Mobile Vehicle Bay fragments scattered in wrecks and debris fields near the safe shallows and kelp forest.
Materials to craft the Mobile Vehicle Bay:
- Titanium (from metal salvage)
- Lubricant (from creepvine seed clusters)
- Computer Chip (from copper wire, gold, and table coral sample)
Once crafted, deploy the Mobile Vehicle Bay from your inventory on the water surface. A drone hovers above the water and lets you select which vehicle to build once you have the blueprint.
Step 2: Find Seamoth Fragment Locations
The Seamoth blueprint requires scanning a set number of Seamoth fragments. The best locations to find them are:
1. Safe Shallows Wrecks
Small wreckage debris near the starting area often contains Seamoth fragments. Check the scattered metal pieces on the seabed within 100 m of your lifepod.
2. Grassy Plateaus Wrecks
Larger wrecks in the grassy plateaus (50-200 m) consistently contain Seamoth fragments. Look for the large broken hull sections and scan the fragments inside and around them.
3. Kelp Forest Debris
Metal debris in the kelp forest sometimes has Seamoth fragments. Sweep the forest floor for scannable pieces.
4. Underwater Islands Wrecks
If you have not found enough fragments in the shallower zones, the underwater islands wrecks have additional Seamoth fragments at moderate depth.
Fragment Location Summary
| Location | Depth | Risk | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Safe Shallows debris | 0-50 m | Low | Check near lifepod |
| Grassy Plateaus wrecks | 50-200 m | Low-Medium | Most reliable source |
| Kelp Forest debris | 10-50 m | Low | Watch for Stalkers |
| Underwater Islands | 100-300 m | Medium | Backup location |
Step 3: Build the Seamoth
Once you have scanned enough fragments to unlock the blueprint, deploy the Mobile Vehicle Bay and select the Seamoth. The required materials are:
- Titanium (x2-3 ingots from metal salvage)
- Lubricant (from creepvine seed clusters)
- Glass (from quartz)
- Power Cell (from battery + silicone rubber)
- Lead (from galena outcrops, optional for some recipes)
Load the materials into the Mobile Vehicle Bay's build menu. The bay fabricates the Seamoth on the water surface, and you can pilot it immediately once complete.
First Upgrades to Get
After building the Seamoth, prioritize these upgrades at a Moonpool or vehicle upgrade console:
- Depth Module MK1: extends depth from 200 m to 300 m. Essential for reaching the grassy plateaus and beyond.
- Perimeter Defense System: zaps nearby predators. Your best weapon against Stalkers and Sand Sharks.
- Storage Module: adds 16 inventory slots to the Seamoth.
- Engine Efficiency Module: reduces power consumption for longer trips.
